Sodus Bay Fishing
Sodus Bay is located midway between Rochester and Syracuse. It is a large inlet on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. Sodus Bay is about 3000 acres in size. The Bay has a maximum depth of around 50 feet. However most of the bay is relatively shallow, usually 20 feet or less in depth.
Sodus Bay fisherman often encounter northern pike, bluegill, yellow perch, walleye, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed, rock bass, crappie, white perch, carp, bullheads, and channel catfish. Nowadays yellow perch fishing in Sodus Bay has taken the spotlight. Although the season can be short, ice fishing in the bay is fantastic.
In the fall and early in the spring, brown trout, coho, rainbow trout, lake trout, and king salmon may be taken from the two piers that guard the entrance to the bay. These fish are just passing by and are on the way up the nearby tributaries to spawn. The west pier also has a working lighthouse that is of historical nature. Sodus Bay also has several charter boats that are available to show everyone an exciting time fishing for trout or salmon from Lake Ontario. If you are into bass fishing, there are charters for targeting bass too.
