Do you still need to use bait with fishing lures?

Posted on 22nd April 2009 by admin in Uncategorized

Any lures you can recommend? I'm doing some fishing in lake Ontario off the shore.
I'm just catch and release fishing for fun, doesn't matter to me what I catch. Thanks for the quick response

Lake Ontario has many species of fish: lake trout, brown trout, small mouth etc.

a multispecies bait like rapala floating baits or in-line spiners like panther martins will cover multiple species. small swimbaits are easy too.

but what are you fishing for?

lures dont require additional bait.

Ontario Fishing Regulations?

Posted on 13th April 2009 by admin in Uncategorized

i live in Toronto Ontario and im going fishing this comming up saturday to little lake in barrie. i want to go bass pike and walleye fishing at that lake. the problem is, when i look at the regulations, it says the fish have seasons but it says nothing about catch and release. is it still legal for me to fish but release all my fish, or is it illegal to go fishing for these species even if i catch and release? thanks in advance

oh btw im in zone 15 of the ontario fishing laws
how can the officers tell if im fishing for a fish that is out of season? im not planning on doing it but just wondering how they do it

Pretty well everything in that area is closed except perch and other pan fish.

Refer to this link: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsFish/Publication/STEL02_163615.html

which is the Ontario fishing regulations. You can't target out of season fish even if you plan to release them. Conservation officers will know you are not targeting pan fish if you have a 4 inch spoon or body bait on. They ain't idiots, but they love to bust idiots……DON'T DO IT

How deep are lake trout this time of year?

Posted on 7th April 2009 by admin in Uncategorized

Im going fishing for lake trout in Muskoka region in ontario, canada. i was wondering how deep the fish are right now so i can use the proper lures. oh and if anyone can share any tips or baits they use that would be really great. thanks.
oh, im not ice fishing. and i believe the ice melted over the lake about a week ago

if you are in a boat and it has down-riggers I would start at dawn with one side depths set at 20 and 30 feet and the other side at 15 and 25 and I would focus more on the south part of the lake if you are wanting pike and muskie they will be in the north part along with bass as there the water will warm up the soonest and what is going to mix the whole thing up is how deep that lake actually is. I would think facing the sun with the longest strait trolling distances will produce your bigger fish but I would also think about changing things up like when turning around and going back the other way speeding up the troll during the direction changes and slowing down on the straight lines. If you are using lead core start with four colors and as the sun gets higher in the sky you will need to go deeper.
